Angkor Thom
This temple site was built under Jayavarman VII who, for no doubt, was the greatest emperor of the Khmer.
Angkor Thom resembles the last and most enduring capital city of the Khmer empire and was built in the 12th century.
The official state temple, Bayon, together with its 54 huge towers of stone faces which look into all four directions, is in the centre of the Angkor Thom complex and was built at the end of the 12th or beginning of the 13th century.
In an inscription, found at Angkor Thom, King Jayavarman VII is described as the bridegroom and the city as the bride.
